Teen Counseling

Teens have problems too! The therapist is not an extension of parenting. Teens or young adults have mental health needs. Various life stressors can impact anyone’s mental health. Too much stress can be overwhelming for teens (school, work, friendship, bullying) they’re not sure how to cope and can develop dysfunctional coping habits (self-harming practices, promiscuity, isolation, substance use, etc). Relationship loss is another primary reason teens or young adults seek therapy. This could be the death of a loved one, break ups, or change of family dynamics. We work to normalize feelings, and improve coping skills. We explore thoughts, feelings and actions. We set realistic goals to effectively address the issues. Sometimes what may seem to be minor to others is major to the teen/young adult. Each session last about 60 minutes.
